It comes as no surprise that in Emily’s role as Wedding Planner she is one of the first people to know the happy couples first dance song choice.

Here she has listed the top 5 most frequently used and some reasoning behind each, perhaps it will inspire your first dance choice.

Aready head your big day? Leave a comment below with your first dance song choice...

1. Perfect - Ed Sheeran and Beyoncé

It’s not any wonder this song was one if the most frequent in 2018; I’ve known it to make even the strongest, manly men cry.

Ed wrote and produced this himself, admitting he wanted to outdo “Thinking out loud” as it he wanted this to be the love song that defined his career. His inspiration for the song was his fiancé.

There aren’t many songs more full of love than this .

2. She’s the one - Robbie Williams

Despite Robbie making this song one of the most popular first dance songs, it wasn’t a song he wrote himself, in fact it was released a year earlier by the British rock band World Party for their 1997 album, Egyptology. The band's frontman Karl Wallinger told The Daily Telegraph he wrote the song in "10 minutes and recorded it in an hour."

This simple piano ballad about finding a soulmate gives me goosebumps every time I hear it, it never gets old.

3. John Legend - All of Me

'All of Me' was inspired by John Legend's then-fiancée, now wife, model Chrissy Teigen.

He wrote and produced the song with the help of Toby Gad (who has helped write other amazing ballads for Beyoncé, Fergie & countless others).

John told fuse in his own words what the song is about: "At the same time as you're giving everything up, you're gaining everything, and that's what the whole song is about. If you're in love and you connect, then even when you're giving things up, you're gaining so much from it."

4. Ellie Goulding - Your Song

Whilst some may prefer the Elton John Version, I think for a more contemporary twist Ellie nails this, we can back this school of thought because Kate and William has Ellie herself sing at their Royal Wedding!!

Enough said?

Like with most Elton songs, he wrote the melody of the song while Bernie Taupin wrote the lyrics.

Elton refuses to reveal who the song was written about, what we can tell is it is beautifully naive, from the heart and a strong choice for a first dance.

5. Ben Howard - Only Love

Written by Ben Howard, he sings about a deep connection with his true love, it’s got a folk-rock vibe so it’s great for boho Weddings. The lyrics are lovely and I think that’s what really means a lot in a first dance song.

One of the things I think we can take away from this article is tjst when songwriters have written their own lyrics, it becomes much more personal, meaningful and powerful - making them excellent choices for first dance songs.
